Order of Degrees of Knighthood

There are Degrees (Levels) that one achieves to learn the principles of the Knights of Columbus, as a means to becoming a full fledged Knight. Each degree teaches the member something about the organizations principles, the church’s’ values and about himself.
For each Degree, a ceremony is conducted to designate the members’ achievement of each level of Knighthood.

The First Degree is put on by the Council's First Degree team and teaches CHARITY.

The Second Degree is put on by a District Degree Team and teaches UNITY.

The Third Degree is put on by the State Degree Team and teaches FRATERNITY.
In order to become one of the Council officers, one needs to achieve Third Degree Knighthood.

The Fourth Degree is a separate entity of the Knights of Columbus whose main principle is PATRIOTISM. Dressed in their distinctive regalia of tuxedo, feathered chapeau, cape and sword, Fourth Degree Knights regularly participate in civic events such as parades and wreath-laying ceremonies, and at ecclesial functions at Catholic churches.
